Searching for a way to search.

As with any new OS it takes a little getting used to as things have a habit
of moving or just looking different. The search function is no different in
that it has changed quite a bit. The fact that it looks different doesnt
bother so much as the fact that I am waiting for it to actually turn up
results in a search.

I have changed search behaviors, where it is searching and what it is
searching for and I have yet to have anything that isnt already sitting on my
desktop to come up with a result.

Now I am exagerating just a bit, and maybe 12 hour workdays are taking their
toll, but shouldnt I be able to type a file into search and get a result?
Index, local drives, something?

The built in search is crap. Emberrassing interface, and it doesn't find
anything.

Doing "dir filename /s" is more predictable. And it works :)

I too have found search to be almost worthless. I am probably doing
something wrong and I've not gone back to work on it more but so far I've
not seen anything that would indicate that it works worth a flip just yet.
I imagine they are still working to make it more useful than the search was
in previous versions as well as faster and easier... that usually seems to
be the goal.

I'm hoping for an update that will prove more fruitful in the near future,
heheh.

Best bet is not to use the Search explorer. Open up the appropriate drive
explorer and search from the field in the upper right hand corner. Then you
will find files and folders. If you want a specific file make sure you
include the extension, no extension gets everything with the word in it

There will be indexing service which will speed up the search process
like in MacOsX. But, as I presume the indexing service is not working yet.
In the search windows change the option search place from index to
drives or specific folders as you wish this will turn it back to old
search mechanism.
