Searching fault

I have a file that search cannot find.
I can open its location in a folder and see the file and use the search
facility and it still cannot find it.
Have to use the advance facility to find it.
I have rebuilt the index and it still cannot find the file yet I can see it
and run it OK.
It will also not find Windows Photo Gallery.
When are MS going to fix this bug as it is an essentail part of the OS.

check my earlier posts...I've complained of the same thing. divx and
flv files are not found, even after rebuilding the index about a week
ago. besides that issue, before I rebuilt the index, typing "*.d" in
the search box would bring up files without a d in their extension.
same thing with other letters. rebuilding the index at least fixed
that. sigh.

Is it an image saved with paint? This happens to me: all files saved with
paint are not found. There's a bug.
It will also not find Windows Photo Gallery.

I'm able to find the photo gallery from the start menu search box.

have you added the .flv and .divx extensions in the Windows Search Indexer
options? :-)
 
Windows Photo Gallery
Yes I can manually find and run it OK and it auto loads when trying to read
load/new pictures and have it in the start window so I do not have to search
for it.
Its just that Vista cannot find it even when it is under its nose!!

The other problem in not finding a file it is a jpeg I scanned it in.
Just scanned another image and it has found that one OK.

I have rebuilt the index and it still will not find either.

I think the search facility has major problems and needs fixing are there
any alternatives?

Microsoft have had years developing software by now it should be perfect
it worked in XP and was simple to use as one could look for words in files
etc.
Vista is a backward step.

yes they are all in there. today i just discovered that search cant
even find the jpgs that it used to. it finds only 3 of hundreds, using
the index. when i turn OFF indexing in the options, search finds all
the jpgs, and all other files, very quickly. it seems that indexing
just doesn't work well on my 2 vista machines. I've even rebuilt the
index over a week ago to see if that would help. sigh.

in this regard, I agree with you 1000%. search is NOT working correctly
on my 2 vista machines, despite rebuilding the index and waiting over a
week. turning it off gives fast, accurate results (on my system,
anyway). go figure.
