I'm posting in this forum because I think my question regarding
searchindexer.exe relates to the Outlook 2007 beta that I've been using for
a few months. Assuming I'm correct, can anyone tell me why this
memory/processer-intensive program pops up at random and consumes mega
resources while I'm working at my computer. My understanding is that all
Windows search programs are supposed to work in the background and only
while one's computer is idle. And you can't kill it--it just keeps
reemerging ala Jason in Halloween. Thanks for any help.

searchindexer.exe is from WDS; Windows Desktop Search. Make sure you have
the latest version installed;
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=4982072f-7660-492f-b96c-e42b4f5ab4aa

In general the indexer should only index when the computer is being
considered idle.

Thanks for the heads-up, Roady. I see there's a new version 3.0 that was
published just a few days ago. Should I install it over my existing WDS (the
one I was complaining about) or uninstall and then install 3.0? Thanks again
for your quick response to my post!

Rick

I believe the installer will tell you to uninstall the previous version
first or uninstall it for you. It will probably completely need to reindex
as well.
