Searchable Database

I

Ian Bull

I had been hoping to put a searchable database on my website which appears
to be real easy using FrontPage.

Unfortunately I find that my ISP uses Apache which they tell me is not
compatible with FrontPage's .ASP.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how a novice can implement a
searchable database on an Apache server? (my ISP tells me he will have mySQL
& PHP real soon!) i.e. software that will generate the search & results
pages reasonably automatically ala FrontPage!

Thank you & Regards
Ian Bull

You will have to wait for your host to install PHP and MySQL, and then learn to work with them, or
you will need to switch to a Windows based web host.

Hi, Ian:

You have to follow what your ISP says and wait for the solutions they will
offer.
Unless you want to change hosts/

I've found an excellent site for cgi/perl scripts

www.ezscripting.co.uk

these scripts can be implemented independently of frontpage, however they use
templates (which you can design with frontpage) but they are not 'automatically
set up' with frontpage in the same way the asp scripting/database features in
Frontpage are. You need a little knowledge of cgi/perl and Unix to set up the
scripts.

Andrew,

Many thanks for the response - I have to confess that my programming skills
begin & end with dBase!!! - are you able to point me to a website that might
do cgi/perl for idiots to get me started?
