Hello,

I'm searching some files on my hard drive, they should contain some specific
words but I don't know how to make that search with the search tool in which
it asks only one specific word in the space labeled "the file contains:"

I tried to link the keywords with "+" or " or ";" or "," or "-"
but noway that doesn't work.

thanks

Correct, try using third party search that DOES provide that capability.
"Agent Ransack" for instance and it's free

For advanced searches I use "Query the Catalog" in the Indexing Services
which can be located in the Computer Management console snap-in.

How to create and configure a catalog for indexing

doesn't work
and it implies that there is need of correct order of the words!

thanks anyway

On my system with roughly with 100 gigabytes used, the catalog is only 127
mb. I also had Yahoo Desktop search installed but it consumes 438 mb of
space for the Yahoo Desktop search catalogs and slowed down my system when
indexing, so I removed it.

It sure helps me performing advance searches.

I think you tool is useful to speed up the search process; but I don't see
how indexing the data can help in achieve my goal;

remember I just want to make a search of some files containing at least two
keywords whatever their order.

and you even dindn't tell me if after eating 127Mb of space you can make the
search with the option i detailed.
and what if the file you want to search is on an removable media?

You can make the searches you require when using Windows catalog. For
example when searching for two text words consisting of William and Windows,
I would use:

William+Windows or
William Windows or
William&Windows

About removable drives, I am not sure because I have never tried to catalog
a removable drive before but I know you can add UNC paths for networks to
add to your catalog files.

But then you might find Yahoo, Google or MSN Desktop search a better
solution for you. If I was you, I would test all of these applications
including the Query the Catalog feature with Windows XP and then make my
decision that best suits my needs.

personnaly I don't like to install tools which eats spaces like 200,300,
400Mb and make the hard drive running more and more which makes you fine to
buy a new one three times earlier;
more over your yahoo, masn... add a lot of spy or ads tools in you pc and in
fact they take control of your pc over you.

really, such a big tool for just the simple task I asked is as if you used a
bazzuka to kill a cockroach;

;-)
