search pane automatically opens

For a couple of weeks, whenever I open IE or Explorer,
the search pane opens to the left of the regular window.
This is annoying and I don't think I changed any
settings. Anyone know how to change the default so they
open normally, without the search pane?

I have tried your suggestion but it doesn't work. There must be a
default registry setting that opens the search pane and I can't find
it - anyone else have an idea?
