search page in IE

Hi,

The IE browser opens with a default search page. My home
page is set to about:blank, but the blank page comes up
with the search page.
When i open the yahoo messenger, the IE browser opens up
on its own and opens a couple of pop ups prompting me to
download software from some sites for removing spyware.

How can i get rid of this default search page that comes
with the address about:blank on my browser?
