search inbox and sent items Outlook 2007

I am trying to search in my "Inbox" and "Sent Items" for messages containing
a certain word. I have performed a search before in the search box which is
displayed above my inbox list. As I would type in the word that I was
looking for, the inbox would narrow down to only the e-mails containing the
word that I am searching for. For some reason, which I can not figure out,
when I type in the word that I am looking for now, it narrows down to the
word that I am looking for, but only shows results for today's e-mails. My
inbox contains e-mails from January to now. Can anyone tell me how I can
search for a word in my whole inbox again? Thanks!!

6 months worth of emails is rather a lot to keep in your Inbox. Are you
certain they haven't been archived or moved to another location by a rule?
Examine your Search Options for any settings that might explain this
behavior. If you change your Search to "All Mail Items" do they then appear?
Examine your Indexing Status to make sure you are not in the midst of a
re-indexing operation.

I can not figure out how to select "All Mail Items." All of the e-mails from
the past 6 months are still in my inbox, I just scrolled down and looked.
Just today, I was trying to find all of the e-mails in my sent folder
containing the name "Monticello" in it. I clicked on the "Sent Folder." I
then put my cursor in the search box located at the top of the list of
e-mails that I have sent. When I type in "Monticello," the amount of e-mails
in the sent folder dwindle, as I type, down to just the few emails that I
have sent today with the word "Monticello." But for some reason, it is not
showing me the e-mails that I sent the yesterday with "Monticello" in it, or
any from the past 6 months. When I clear the search box, all of the past 6
months of e-mail reappear. I have tried it with other words also, and no
matter what word I try, my search only turns up results for that particular
word in today's e-mails only.

The Search dialog dropdown provides you the option to Search All Mail Items.
That would seem the logical place to start to troubleshoot this problem. So
would the answers to the rest of my queries.

Hey Russ,

I think that it must have been idexing, because it is working correctly now.
I looked at the Indexing Status and it said that "Outlook has finished
indexing all of your items," so it must have been doing that. Thanks for
your help and have a great weekend!!!!

Odd. If indexing is still in progress when you try an instant search in
Outlook, you usually receive a warning to that effect.
