Search Function

Hi,

I'm running XPHome. Why is it that sometimes when I do a search for a
file and specify Look in C:, I won't find the file, but if I specify
My Computer, I'll find it?

It just happened when I was looking for notepad.exe.

When searching C:, it wasn't found.

When searching My Computer, it was found:
NOTEPAD.EXE C:\I386
notepad.exe C:\WINDOWS
NOTEPAD.EXE-2DAE2DE6.pf C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch
notepad.exe C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DLLCACHE

The reason I was looking for notepad is because I clicked on my firewall
log, pfirewall.log to read it, and I got a pop up window telling me
Program Not Found. Windows cannot find Notepad.exe.

Where should notepad.exe be located?

Thanks,
Bruce

From the FWIW Dept:

I very often experience the same thing: Search Files
and Folders on C: and I won't find it. However, Search
Files and Folders in My Computer and it'll find it
every time.
I thought once it was user account related, but that
didn't pan out. Although it's repeatable, it's NOT
predictable ahead of time whether searching C: will
find the same thing as searching My Computer does.
On the other hand, if I search a directory that's
NOT the root, say in c:/myfiles, it WILL always find
the file. It's only when I'm searching an entire
directory, including subdirectories of course, that the
Search Results between C: and My Computer vary.
Same scenario, BTW, if I search "All Local Drives"
(have 5 on 2 hdd's).
It's a confusing annoyance, that's for sure.
