I have numerous scanned documents that I'd like to search for specific words.
Ideally, this seach would result in highlighting the files that contain this
word(s). Can this be done, and if so, your guidance please.

If the scanned documents are saved as images, then I don't believe this is
possible. If, however, the documents are saved as .txt or .doc or even .wpd
files, then you should be able to search for specific words.

Keven, thanks. They were saved as images.

Wouldn't it be grand if image files of text file could have metadata
appended in such a way that every instance of a word was recorded?

If you have a program like PaperPort, drag the scanned files into Word. It
takes some work, but they can be cleaned up and be real text files.
