When selecting the Search for Files or Folders feature
from the Start menu, Windows 2000 freezes for
approximately 30 seconds. The same is true when trying to
run a Favorite from the Start Menu. The system freezes
and never opens the favorite. Any ideas as to why this is
ocurring?

Windows 2000 freezing in cases like this, in my
experience, have happened because of network connectivity
problems. Sometimes it is because the computer is looking
for shares that are no longer available. Common things to
look for are printers that are no longer availble, but are
still in your printers folder and desktop shortcuts that
point to network resources that are no longer available.
