Search for files containing text

Hi,

This may be a stupid question but...

XP understands .zip files. When Searching for files, the
system searches within the .zip files it finds. However,
if I try to search for a word or phrase in the file, it
never finds anything inside a .zip file.

Is this expected behavior?

other info:
Indexing service is turned off
The 'Index files with unknown extensions' is turned on.

Hi

WinXP's search function filters out files to search in based on file
extensions:

If you look at article #309173 method 2 step 6. It asks
you to turn on the 'Index files with unknown extensions'
option on. As my original post indicated, I've already
done this.

Hi

Do the PersistentHandler registry edits documented in the links I gave you and
see if that works better...

The PersistantHandler entry is present for .zip files.
The files within the .zip have the extension .afl. There
is no PersistantHandler entry for this extension.

However, it is my understanding that since I have
the 'Index files with unknown extensions' registry
setting activated, the PersistantHandler setting is
unnecessary.
