Search facility in Explorer

Hi all,

I seem not to be able to search on words in text files, in this case in
files with the java extension. I tried searching for a word either in files
with "All or part of the file name: *.java" and without that field filled in.
I tried searching on words I know are in the files. But even then I had no
luck. Can anyone tell me what's wrong, and what I need to do to get a search
result?

Hi, Did you try this extensions (.Jsp, .php, .Js, .asp, .cpl) or you can use
wild cards* to search for all of them in one go.

HTH.
Please let us know.

Nass,

I tried *.java so the search facility did not have to view all files. I know
it is in a Java file. I did not use any of the mentioned files in that
directory.

I tried searching with noting in the 'All or part of the file name' on a
parent directory, and got hits in XML files containing the search phrase.. It
is as if the search facility does not want to search in the Java files (...).

Did you tried the wild cards, which I assume you did hence *.java and did you
create the files or been installed by say for ex Coldfusion, frontpage and
you want to search for them, some can be protected and hidden from the search
engine.
Try to view all hidden files on this directory and do your search and see if
that will make them picked up this time.

Nass,

To answer your questions, I created the files using Eclips. When I looked at
the properties of the java files, they where archive, NOT read-only and NOT
hidden.

Now using the 'More advanced options, I deselected 'Search system folders'
and selected 'Search hidden files and folders'. The 'Search subfolders' was
still selected.

I even renamed a Java file so it got the extension .txt. Still no luck. So
it is not specially so that the search engine does not look in java files.

The only thing I can say now is that I execute the search on another
partition of my harddisk I sat aside for development work. It is a FAT32
partition.

Using the "A word or phrase in the file" search criterion may not work

Hi,

Go to Search----Files and Folders-Change Preferences---With Indexing
Service----Change Indexing Service Settings.
It will open Indexing Service Console.
Inside that Go to Action------Properties and then click the check box "Index
Files with Unknown Extensions"----Click OK.
Come out of the console and perform a search once again.
