I am looking around for a good, FREE, search engine. I found one at
www.freefind.com but whenever the user clicks "Search", it take them
to Freefind.com and their search is executed there, and then they are
returned to your site.

Can I get some reccomendations please? TIA as usual.

As far as I can see, the only way to use the google search tool is to also
include a "search the web" google form. This is fair to google, but might
lead visitors off site early.

I've been using atomz for my weblog (free) and it seems fine. Even emails me
a report of what searches have been made.

Solution: www.atomz.com

"Express Search" is the free version.
Great company.

I see that they have a free "express" version, but do you have any idea what
the full version costs? I've searched the site in vain for pricing ... even
the page reached by following a link entitled "Sales Information" fails to
mention the price.

If a company is nervous about telling me what their product costs, that make
me nervous also....

Hey GL,
Their deal is that they started many years ago as one of the first free search
tools that you could deploy on your own site. It was a huge success, and they
relatively recently went "enterprise." Which is basically to say that they now
develop search engines for corporate and enterprise sites. And as such, pricing
is dictated by the project, but can run upwards of $20,000. Their's is now the
sort of deal where a guy flies to the client, they have a long meeting, then
determine the pricetag.
So Atomz isn't the free little web--dealy-search-tool-thingy that it used to be.
They've become sort of an IBM-type enterprise solution now.

If you can run scripts on your server, try
the free CGISearch from AnalogX.

Thanks for the tips - I ended up using Atomz - I am amazed - it
works with all my many framed sub-webs !!! The other free one I tried
does not drill down into framed pages.

Atoms does - although, of course - when you do a search and click on
one of the Hits, it takes you to the framed page directly and does not
display the left and right frames. But that is OK, since they can at
least find what it is they are looking for.
