Search doesn't work

I am not sure if this quit working when IT upgraded my
Excel version from Excel 2000 to Excel 2002 or not, but it
may be.

If I highlight a row, and click edit, search, then type
in search string I know is in the range I highlighted,
and then change the look in to values, and click find
next, it keeps being stubborn and saying that Microsoft
Excel cannot find the data you're searching for. Check
your search options, locations and formatting. There is no
location as such. It has choices of Sheet, or workbook,
rather than a certain range like what I remember. I think
this is a bug myself. I supposedly have a good patch,
which is showing (version 10.6501.6626)SP3. Is there a
known problem in this area?

Otherwise, what do you suppose is the problem?

Thanks,

Bruce

I see what its doing now, but it still doesn't make any
sense.

If I have ST~813 in a cell, the search will find it if you
put 813 or ST, but it refuses to find it if you put ST~813
in there. So, why is that happening?

The tilde(~) tells Excel to search for a non-standard character like * or ?
which can be search wildcards themselves.

Excel sees none of these and your search fails.

Xl2002 doesn't find when I use this.

I'm not sure if there is any way to find a string with the tilde(~) in it.

Tried all the option combinations in the Find Dialog(I think<g>) and no find.

Sees ya later, Gord

Hi Gord

If I enter for example ~ in a cell I can find it with

Ctrl-F
Find What ~~

I'm sorted now. Closed and reopened Excel and tried again.

No idea what combination of options I was trying that would not give me a
result.

I can even find ST~813 by entering ST~~813

Honest, I was trying<g>
