Search Document Properties

Is there a way to conduct a search of document "properties"? My goal is to
place information or keywords in a document's properties and then be able
later to search and find all documents of that type.

Enter the words in the Containing Text field. Properties are searched as part of the content. If you turn Index Server on then you can specify the specific property to be searched as well.

Thanks David. How would I turn "Index Server" on? I did a search, and the
only thing that came up were knowledge base articles about "Index Server
[2.0, 3.0]" - is it a program I would buy?

There are a few ways of turning it on. To get help, especially on how to query on a specified property (without Indexing Service you search all properties and content) type in Help and Support
Indexing Service.

So without Indexing Service you search everything you can see in Explorer's detail view with all columns switched on, see View menu - Choose Details for a list (that means keywords aren't searched but there are plenty of other similar fields you can use). Also you can't use any of the three query languages (or is it four). Just word searching.
