Search Companion.

Whilst using the START Menu at desktop I clicked on search but didn't do it
right I think. When I came to use search a dialogue box told me that there
was a file missing & that I would have to use Windows CD to replace the
files. If I did this I would lose all my updates like Servie Pack 2 etc. Any
suggestions please?

Use Method 3 in this MSKB article to reinstall the Search Companion files:

No, you would not lose your updates if you use that method to reinstall the
missing files.
