How can I recover standard Microsoft Search Assistant?
What is the proper registry key value for CuztomizeSearch

Wojtek,

Reset the Internet Explorer Search engine to default settings [Tip 13]
http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/IEFAQ.htm

To see the default Search URL, edit the REG file (in the above site) with notepad.

get spybot or ad-aware to clean your system of the
hijackers or spyware first.and then get a firewall.
safer-networking.org
lavasoftusa.com
zonelabs.com
update them as soon as you install them .then do scans to
see if you still have the intruder in your system.

I've been having troubles lately too with this site
called shopnav

It sets itself as the default search site and 404 not
found page in Internet explorer. Running adaware and
spysweeper did not resolve. Resetting web settings helped
only if in IE and not closing out, but as soon as IE is
closed, starting a new instance of IE causes that darn
shopnav to return, even after resetting the web settings.

Please can anyone help?!?!?!?

I don't think Microsoft knows of this problem, because
there is nothing regarding shopnav.

I'm having the same problem with 'shopnav'. I went to the link, printed the info, but I have no 'srng' entry. I HATE the parasite creep. I tried searching my system for all of the .dll's mentioned in the info and found none. I have XP professional. Any other ideas?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts

I did scroll down to the bottom of the page, printed the 'removal' instructions. I have no "srng" entry in the registry. What am I missing?

I tried running the commands but I can't. When I go to the dos
command, it shows 'c:\Documents and Settings\My Name>'

When I type in either command, I get nowhere. I appreciate your
taking the time to help me with this and I'm really not brain dead.
I want to get rid of the beast 'shopnav'. What am I doing wrong?

Try the tools here:
Dealing with Unwanted Spyware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.
CWShredder is also available here:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/cwshredder.zip
**Post your HijackThis log to
http://forums.spywareinfo.com/ or the Spyware forum at
http://forum.aumha.org/ for expert analysis, not here.**
Alternative download pages for Ad-Aware, Spybot, HijackThis and CWShredder
may be found on this page:
http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm.
If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
in the same thread.

so far nothing has worked. I just posted my 'startup list' at SWI Forums, hoping someone will respond. All the programs I ran, tell me my system is not infected.
