Search Assistant

Recently i have had a search assistant appear near the quick launch area on
the start bar. I have deleted a search program from my computer, but the
search bar keeps coming back everytime i turn on my computer. Any help would
be appreciated.

Dan,

This is a known spyware program. Download spybot search and destroy at safer-networking.org and it should remove it. You may need to run it in safe mode.

Thanks wes, i tried the Spybot and it didnt seem to work, i then used the
Ad-aware and
my problems solved.

removed the search assistant, my quick launch bar dissapears when i turn on
my PC. Any ideas would be appreciated,

Here are a few things to look at.

Right click the Taskbar | Properties | Taskbar tab |
Make sure this is checked: Show Quick Launch
Apply | OK

[[Displays the Quick Launch bar on the taskbar. The Quick Launch bar is a
customizable toolbar that lets you display the Windows desktop or start a
program with a single click. You can add buttons to start your favorite
programs.]]

Verify this setting in the registry.
Start | Run | Type: regedit | OK
Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
Userinit C:\Windows\System32\userinit.exe,

Do not forget to add the comma at the end.

Close the Registry Editor and reboot your computer.
