I have a Seagate Tapestor 20/40GB travan tape drive connected through
USB.
I inserted the propriety cleaning cartridge but didn't eject it. Is
there a means to eject the cartridge?

Thanks

??? I always thought QIC/Travan didn't have automated ejection
systems. To eject, you just pull it.

A cleaning cartridge for the Seagate Tapestor 20/40GB travan drive
(STT3401A) will be ejected automatically when it reaches the end of
it's cleaning cycle. Magnetic media has to be ejected via the
retrospect/dantz GUI by clicking an eject button. In Linux by the
command mt -f /dev/sto eject.

I've now managed to eject the cleaning cartridge by the following
procedure -

1
Insert a long screw driver into a slot immediately below the stuck
tape and press very hard driving the screw driver down about 5 cms.
There will be a lot of resistence but the tape does eject. Dispose of
the ejected tape

2
Reverse the above procedure to insert a good tape as otherwise the
tape drive still thinks it's got a tape inserted!

I hope this helps someone. Still don't know why the cleaning tape got
stuck. The instructions for the cleaning tape suggested that it should
only be used 30 times so perhaps there's some self destruction method
associated with the tape!!!!!!

Regards
