I plug in my SD into my laptop and try to copy one particular file to
it, I get an error

---------------------------
Error Copying File or Folder
---------------------------
Cannot create or replace Tell vX: There is already a file with the same
name as the folder name you specified. Specify a different name.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

I tried to use Error Checking and Defrag to clean it up but that did
not help.

I can copy other new files and update other files except this one.

Other that formatting and copying all the files over again, are there
other things to check or are there apps that can help fix this?

Also, Windows Explorer does not see this folder on the SD.
No files/folders are hidden.

Did you check that there is not a SUB-FOLDER in a folder on the SD that
has that name? Windows Explorer won't let you copy a file into a folder
with a subfolder that has the same name as the file.

Also, is this a straight file copy or are you extracting the file from a
zip file?

The hotfix for the zip file issue is for Vista and Server 2008, but the
issue can also appear in XP.

Looks like the hotfix is for me.

using Vista?

No, using XP Pro, and yes I know, but the symptoms are very similar.
Anyway, I will putter a little more.
