Thanks My HDD is definitely IDE
In device manger under SCSI and RAID controllers there is an entry "AXSAKI
SCSI" controllers. Where has that come from? Also Under DVD/CD-ROM drives
there is "AXV CD/DVD-ROM SCSI Cdrom" Plus my burner and a plain CD-rom are
in there also.
I ask this because my CD-Rom stopped working when I upgraded to XP

Some motherboard EIDE controllers (especially add-ons like Promise, and
Highpoint, RAID controllers) have drivers which make them look like
SCSI. Even the 'normal' EIDE controller can look like SCSI to the system
if you install special drivers for it (nForce2 chipset springs to mind).
What's your motherboard? You might find out this, and other illuminating
information, with the AIDA utility from www.aida32.hu (free). Personally
I'd probably delete the controller & 'imaginary' CD, and see if WinXP
re-detected and re-installed them. Also when you say 'upgraded to WinXP'
... from what, and did you do an actual 'upgrade', rather than a clean
install?
