Scrolling or clicking on TOC generates 0x00000005 error

Using Office 2007 Word. I have a small document (22 pages - no graphics or
embedded objects) with a TOC. Clicking on the TOC or scrolling through it
causes Word to crash and re-start. The error message lists "0x00000005".
All current updates have been applied to the Office installation. Have tried
"Open and Repair" on the document, and deleting and regenerating the TOC -
nothing helps. Working in parallel with a second very similar document that
does not have the problem. Suggestions?

Select the entire document EXCEPT the final paragrah mark, copy it to
the Clipboard, and paste it into a New document?
