scrollbars in db window not working

Have observed this kind of thing on WinXP only, not Win 2000.

IME, the problem ceases if you discard the WinXP style windows.
Right-click the Windows desktop, choose Properties, and set the Theme to
Windows Classic.
 
Haven't seen any posts on this, might be a Windows issue rather than Office,
but just in case:

I notice that VERY often the horizontal scrollbar in the Database Window
doesn't work, whether I'm looking at Forms, Queries, Reports, etc..
Whenever I have enough of these objects to require scrolling to see them
all, I need to use the arrow key rather than the horizontal scrollbar set
into the dbwindow. The scroll bar simply doesn't respond at all, but
doesn't produce any error messages. Has this happened to anyone else?

Windows 2000 Pro AND Windows XP Home
MS Office 2000 Pro AND MSOffice XP

Using Laptop's touchpad AND on a desktop with mouse.

Any comments, suggestions, questions?
