i recently downloaded a the "checkbook register" template from the excel
templates page, and was intriuged as to how they make they labels and title
at the top stay there while the rest of the sheet scrolls as needed. is this
a VBA command or is it a simple header?

Pringles, have a look at windows freeze panes, select A2 and then freeze
panes and row one will stay at the top when you scroll
