Scripts is running

I keep receiving this message when I try to open Yahoo and other online
programs in Windows XP.

"A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You
can stop the script now or you can continue to see if the script will
complete."

What does it mean and how do I complete this task or stop it completely from
popping up?

Try disabling/uninstalling your anti-virus software. Could be its
script blocking function is screwed up.

Have you yet tried running IE without any of its add-ons enabled?

"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -extoff

Could be you have an add-on that is interrogating the data stream and
generating too long a delay which causes IE to timeout.
