Screwball needs help

I'm half-assed about remembering what my system has. It has an 8800
series vid card with two monitor jacks. I'm running a quadcore vista
64 system. Until today, I was running two monitors, just fine. What
I did, and this has happened before, I installed the hp update. Now,
the secondary monitor will only flick the desktop, then go black.
This only happens if i turn off then on the monitor. It flicks the
desktop image, but very dimly, and then goes black. The power light
for the monitor also glows a dimmer green, as if it's in sleep mode.
The mouse still goes over to that screen, but it doesn't wake it up.
I'm hoping this is a relatively common thing, and someone understands
my problem and can help. Thanks all.

Either uninstall the update that broke your system
or use system restore to take it back to a point prior to the update

Ok, I've tried that. Trying to get windows to see/recognize the
second monitor. It's only showing one, I'm struggling to find the
place/tool to get it to recognize it. I think I'll go the longer
route, and deplug the monitor, boot and then plug in the second
monitor. I'm still stuck. Thanks for the help. If you know, what do
I do about the updates, never update again? Ignore them? I feel it'd
be the same update every time, til I update. I've updated a couple
times in the past, and managed to fumble my way to get it working
again, but I'm not sure why I can't this time.

Now, warcraft says can't find a suitable display device and simply
exits. I'm using the computer now, it's obviously working the monitor
anyway. So, now because of the update, my pc seems completely screwed
up, and I'm in more trouble than I began with.

Why didnt you simply uninstall the update? Do you not use Total
Uninstall?

I used system restore, as another recommended. It said it finished.
This is getting very complicated, and I'll prolly have to take it into
a shop. But thanks.

Step 1: Uninstall the update - using an uninstall option in the program or
program folder as first choice, add/remove programs in OS as a second
choice. You may have to uninstall the entire printer/device and all of it's
software to do so. Do it. Reinstall the device later, after you have solved
your video problem.
Step 2: Do the system restore to a date before you installed the update.
Once the system is back up you may need to uninstall the monitors and reboot
to reinstall the monitors, then configure them again.
And as a last option you may need to reinstall the video drivers.

HP bloatware notoriously does not play nice with others. I avoid it like the
plague.

yes, thats why I asked why you didnt just uninstall the 'update.' If
you use Total Uninstall in future these things are trivial.

Seems you're making it so.
