screen turns black

My computer screen has begun to shut down itself. It turns black. It lights
up again when repetedly pressing Fn and F5. But it keeps shuting down over
and over again. The comuter is still running though and one can just almost
see the screens "picture".
 
Did you try attaching a different monitor? I had the same
problem and found out that my LCD was bad.
 
The way you mention you can almost see the picture makes me think the
backlight has burned out. Is this on a desktop or laptop? My guess is
laptop as I haven't seen an FN key on a desktop keyboard, but you never
know :)

Do try connecting an external monitor if possible and see if that helps.
