Screen shows vertical lines

Since about 1 month my computer screen shows randomly
vertical lines while im working on the computer and gets
hung. each time it happens i have to reboot the system.

the smae problem occurs while i use windows ME or Linux
(it goes blank).

can someone figure out where is the problem - video card?
monitor or memory?

Since the problem occurs in different operating systems, you know it's a
hardware issue. The way to find out which device is failing is to
connect the computer to a different monitor. If you don't have any
problems, you know your monitor is at fault. If you do have problems,
you know your video card is failing.
