I had down loaded screen savers but can not seem to get
them to show up in my (desktop properties - screen savers)
Screen savers tab in the destktop properties. I can click
on the icon for the pictular screen saver and tried
placing it in windows/system32, windows/system and in
windows/I386, and in window/programfiles but i still cant
access it from the desktop properties -screensaver tab.
Can someone tell me what to do? When i right click the
screen savers i downloaded a window opens up with a option
to install (among other things). i click install and it
shows it listed in the desktop properties -screensaver tab
window but when i go back later it is no longer there.

put the new screensavers in the \Windows\System32 folder. rename the new
screensaver so that the first two letters are "ss" such as ss3dtext.scr and
then they will show up in the screensavers list.

I have an old Windows 95-era screensaver that I like and I have been
unsuccessful in getting it to show up in the list of screensavers in
Display-Properties of Windows XP. I've tried all the tips and tricks
in this thread and other places with no luck.

However, if you're not squeamish about editing the registry, you can
force Windows XP to use that old screensaver by going to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop

and editing the SCRNSAVE.EXE key. Replace the
"c:\windows\system32\xxxxxxxx.scr" with the name of your screensaver
file. You can also change the timeout value (in seconds) with the
ScreenSaveTimeOut key.

If you don't know how to edit the registry then ask somebody who does
or you might wind up trashing your system configuration.
