My mother-in-law's computer has a picture over top of the picture chosen for
screen saver. I can't get rid of it. What has happened here? Thanks

Possible that a picture got captured and converted to use with the
screensaver. If this is the case, then go into Control Panel>>>Display.
Under the Desktop tab, change the background to the desired one.

OTOH, malware can also cause this problem. Identify the picture by
repeating the above, do a Google search for the miscreant application
or adware to which it belongs and find the means to remove it. Sometimes,
Lavasoft Ad-Aware or Spybot S&D, for example, may be able to do the
removal.

I went to Desktop tab and brought up the picture that was on the original
desktop. I even changed the picture to another one. It shows up when you
first click apply, but in a few seconds the unwanted pictures shows up
again. I can click and drag the unwanted picture from the left side of the
screen and drag it almost all the way over to the right side of her screen.
I can then see the picture I set to see in the desktop tab. Can't get rid of
the unwanted picture, it won't drag all the way to the right. These are all
family pictures. She doesn't have an Spyware or anything else. I just
upgraded her Norton antivirus about a week ago. Thanks

This pretty much confirms that some form of malware has got into the
computer. Try to identify it and if it has a website, there could be
removal instructions. At the same time, download and install Lavasoft
Ad-Aware or Spybot S&D, along with current definitions. Run and either
one might be able to remove the malware. As noted, anti-virus alone is
insufficient today to protect one's computer. In addition to the above,
add a firewall, such as ZoneAlarm.

What it ended up being is a picture from an email that she had enlarged to
fit screen. When I slid the mouse up to the top of the screen it brought up
a X in the upper right hand corner of the screen. I just clicked it to close
the picture. Dumb me. Thanks for suggestions
