Screen Saver causes Windows 2K crash

Hope someone out there can help me.

I will try to explain this as clearly as I can.

I have a laptop computer with Windows 2000 + SP4. The web browser is IE6 +
SP2, and with latest update.

Problems: Microsoft Windows 2000 crashes when I turn on the screen saver in
the Display Properties.

I try to turn off everything in

POWER OPTIOB PROPERTIES:
Turn Off Monitor: Never
Turn Off Hard disks: Never
System Standby: Never
System Hibernates: Never

The problem still remains – the system will crash when the screen saver is
up. In my case it is the laptop is not touched for 10 min.

When I turn off the screen saver, it is OK, but I loss the securities.

All screen saver are standard come with Win 2K. The password protected box
checked.

There are basically two types of screen savers that come with Widows 2000. Those that are resource
intensive and those that aren't. If your display adapter does not support the intensive ones you will get
this behavior. Try to use the Mystify one. Do you get the same behavior?

It woks. Thanks.

Do you think it is hardware problem or software problem? Will it solve the
problem by upgrading to Windows XP?

No what solves your particular issue is upgrading your Video card. This means AGP and you have to have a socket which supports it. I believe you need at leaset AGP 2.0 adapter and of course a card with enough memory and uses that version of AGP.
