Depends on your video card. Many video card manufacturers supply a utility
that, among other things, puts an icon in the "notification area" (systray)
that lets you change resolution, etc.
Go to an empty spot on your desktop, right click and then left click on
"properties." Go to the "settings" tab, then the "advanced" button. Look
around on the tabs you see there (varies with the video hardware). If there
is a box for putting an icon in the tray, check it.
Or go to the website of the manufacturer of your video hardware and see what
they have for downloads.

Doug Knox has a new Utility for this at
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_quickres.zip
At present only supports 7 resolutions, from 640x480 to 1600x1200, and
does not change refresh rate or color depth. but that should meet the
case
