Screen resolution different

This problem is quite serious, I have now heard from
several other developers experiencing the same issue
where they have an application displaying improperly on
Win XPe even though it works OK on XP Pro.

I have tried different display adapters and their
drivers, but the problem definitly is in XPe. There is
actually some distortion at all resolution settings, but
it seems to become worse as the screen resolution is
lowered. When you get to 640x480 (the setting we need)
you are losing more than 25 percent of the image. The
distortion seems to be primarily horizontal. You can drag
the image around and see it all, but we really need
someone from Microsoft who is monitoring this list to
respond to this issue!

We are going to lose a major project if we can't get this
situation corrected.

Thanks,

Could you describe this distortion? When someone says distortion I assume
this problem is not digital in nature.

Try moving picture left and right on your monitor what happens?

When you say you can drag image, how do you drag it?
Desktop is scrolling picture, or you are dragging dialog?
Have you tried setting appropriate refresh rate?

etc.

Can you tell us is this problem digital or analog in nature?

Best regards,

This is a classic issue discussed in the newsgroups numerous times all
related to the specific configuration. It can be due to the wrong DPI
setting (there are two dpi components as well i believe), maybe the
wrong/missing codepage or font components, missing dependency of the display
adapter, perhaps you require a more specific monitor driver than the
"Generic Monitor" component.

I've seen display settings down to unsupported levels of 320x240 with
CT69xxx drivers, though it's ugly for most things, it was somewhat useable
as long as the app or applet could handle it.

The distortion is digital, that is, the picture is clear
and readable, not like an analog tearing or pulling. I
looks at though the pixels are being stretched
horizontally. The missing information is primarily in the
width of the image. If you left click anywhere on the
screen, you can drag the image around and see that it is
all there. As I have stated before, I know it is not
hardware related because if a simply put a hard drive
with Win XP Pro onto the machine and boot from it, the
screen resolution is normal. I am using the exact same
drivers in both cases. It is absolutely clear to me that
there is something going on in the embedded environment.
It is quite possible that I have missed something, either
left out a component or have accepted some default where
I should not, but at this point, I cannot figure out what
it might be. I have installed every font I can find that
even looks like it might affect the VGA display.

I will have a look at the several items Andy Allred has
suggested in his reply. I will post my results. If I am
successful, I will be happy to share the solution with
others.

Thanks for the help,

Andy, I am having the same issue as Irv. I can tell you
that my build has specific vga drivers and uses the plug
and play drivers for the monitor. All dependency checks
come up with no errors for the display.I have actually had
this problem on 2 distinct platforms. One was build from
scratch and teh other came from a preloaded slx file
provided by VIA. All winxp fonts were installed. A few
questions :
1. Under what category in Target designer are the dpi
components found?
2.Under what category in Target Designer are the codepages
you refer to found?
thanks

irv,

I faced similar problems of the screen long bfr.My solution towards it
didnt come in either changing the registry entries or features of
various system components.I had to install the Radeon 7500 to make the
miage right.
however though silly i would suggest u to,do check the fonts inclusion
though this is different from the screen movement.

If this is a classic issue, what is the classic solution?
Can you tell me what components affect or set the DPI?

I was under the impression that the codepage is related
to the keyboard, how can this affect the display? If does
have to do with diplay appearance, then which codepage
other than the standard US English would make a
difference?

Thanks,
IrvR
