Screen output as video capture device?

Sorry, this is probably a bit silly, but I'm new to this MM-technology.

Is it not possible to record events in a window as a video-clip? - I have a
TV tuner-card, could I use that as intermediary capture device and have
MovieMaker record it from there? Reading the documentation isn't really
enlightening about this specific subject - I understand that I need a
properly configured Capture Device, but I'd assumed that to include the
screen.

If anyone could name an alternative, I'd be mighty pleased too!

Oh, well, that'll save me some time trying to beat it into submission -
though, I rather think they missed out on one of the natural features there.
.. .Camtasia looks a bit heavy for my intended use, looking it over other
alternatives surfaced.

Thank you, John!
