This is a condition that comes and goes. The screen just jumps up and down.
What is going on here please.

It realizes that it has a moron looking at it... one who hasn't a clue
about how to post about a problem so that someone might actually help.

A CRT can be affected by nearby fluctuating magnetic fields like motors,
fans, unshielded speakers.

Hi Bob

Hmm-no new nearby equipment. I haven't seen any pattern to this behavior.
Sometimes the jumps are smaller and less rapid than other times.

It could be the vertical hold on the monitor, if it's a CRT. See if
there's a vert. sync. control on the back or front of the monitor. When
that happens on a TV, it's usually worse with a black or blank display
than when there's a more distinct display.

My second thought would be a problem with the graphics card.

I would think that a nearby motor would show little ripples in the
screen, but I guess a large interference could cause the vertical sync
to be messed up by the noise.

Then I would suspect the monitor is getting ready to fail completely.

Thanks for the responses. It's a flat screen LCD. How would I test the graphics card?

john

Run DXDiag and see if it complains of uncertified drivers; try lowering
graphics hardware acceleration, etc.. Also look at the computer
manufacturer site and the graphics card manufacturer site for different
drivers. Try upgrades, reference drivers, and drivers for other model
cards till you find one that works.

If an LCD monitor is jumping, I would look for loose cable connections
from the monitor to the tower.
