Screen flickers

All of a sudden the screen on my computer has started flickering. I have
recently installed WindowsLive Messenger. Could that be the problem?

No, installing Windows Live Messenger will not cause your screen to
start flickering.

Monitors can flicker for lots of reasons. You'll need to provide a lot
more information to narrow down the possibilities. We don't even know if
you have a CRT or an LCD. Some of the possibilities are the cable, power
supply, video card, resolution, driver, malware, EMF, etc.

You can try this,

Got to Display Properties > Settings > Advanced > Monitor

And then try out different refresh rates that your monitor supports (Make
sure the 'hide modes that I can't display' switch is on).

Don't know if this will work, but its worked for me in the past.
