how are you supposed to schedule the computer to do disk
defragmentor?

i have been able to do it on all the other versions of
windows but for some odd reason whenever i try to do it
for xp it never runs

If you have the home version of win xp, it doesn't have
that feature that allows you to schedule a task to disc
deframent. Check it out, I believe i am right.

Get this free programme from the web. It is not the greatest scheduled
maintenance programme there is, but the setting up procedure (clicking Help
on the console of the programme) is illuminating, showing step by step, with
screen shots, how to get the WinXP resident scheduler working correctly.
This includes a section dealing with scheduled defragmentation. If the
steps are duplicated as demonstrated, you cannot fail. It runs on the .NET
Framework downloadable from the Windows update site.
