This is my question for today. (Obviously, I'm new to Windows XP.
However, I have used Windows 95 and 98SE for almost 10 years.)
I'm trying to find out how to correct a problem or whether it's even
correctable.
One application that I had on my old PC under Windows 98SE was
Schedule+, which I had setup from an even earlier PC running Windows 95.
I really like this application. Since I use it at home without any
network, it really meets all my calendar and appointment needs.
When I got my new PC last week, the hard drives from my old PC were
copied as data into folders on my new PC. I went to the old
SCHDPL32.EXE and tried it. It worked!! I moved it and the rest of its
folder -- including the .scd file that still held my appointments -- to
a directory of its own. I then added a shortcut to SCHDPL32.EXE to my
Startup directory. Everything works fine now . . . WITH ONE EXCEPTION.
When I try to print a day's or week's appointments, I get an error popup
that says:
"The print operation could not be complete. Cannot print because there
are no valid .FMT files available."
I have all the old .FMT files that allowed me to print under Windows
98SE. Can anyone help me with this?
I don't want to print a file or an on-screen Schedule+ display. The
printed page is NOT formatted the same as the display. My preferred
format for printing is a 5-day week although I rarely display a week on
my desktop. I usually display only a day. Sometimes I also print a
single day, but the hardcopy is not the same as what is on the screen.
That's very much okay.
I was thinking that this might be resolved by editing my registry
because the files are the same as I had with Windows 98SE. But I don't
know what registry changes are needed. Or perhaps some .dll files need
to be setup in C:\windows (or a subfolder of that). I still have all my
old .dll files, which were saved when the hard drives from my old PC
were copied to my new PC.
Note that Schedule+ was a licensed copy originally installed on my first
PC with Office 95. I moved it to a new PC only when I "junked" the
prior PC. I do recall that I had this same problem when I first set
this up in Windows 98SE, but I can't remember how I resolved it.
Unfortunately, the shop where I bought my first PC failed to provide me
with the Office CD. Unless I can get a new installer file, I can't
reinstall it.
