sfc /scannow should only repair system files thats what sfc stands for system
file checker. It may not be working because you are missing a space between
sfc and /scannnow. like this "sfc /scannow" without the quotes. Good Luck.

Kemco
thanks for your reply. i have tried to run sfc /scannow with the source
path set at
C:\ (windows NT included) and E:\ and it keeps asking for my windowsxp-cd ,
but when i put the cd in my cd-rom (cd drive is working) it tells me i have
the wrong cd ,it sure confuses this old man because i installed this win.xp
off this same cd
-- and no one else has worked on this pc.
i did disable some services here awhile back pertaining to a home network i
used to have.
if you could help me out i sure would appreciate it.
thanks
larry

Larry,

I would imagine the problem is that since you've installed xp that you have
recieved a service pack or 2 that will cause problems with the original cd if
it is not current with the service packs that you have. What you need to do
is slipstream your original xp cd. You can find all the steps involved
here...
