Scanning the product key

Hello

I would like to be able to scan the product key on the Windows XP Sticker that is on the side of My dell Computers. I help Support about a 1000 systems in the School I work in. And the kids for some reason like to rip off the stickers from the pc's.
When I scaned the sticker it came up with a number but it wasn't the product key the 25 digit key. Is there a converter to convert the number on the sticker into the 25 digit key. If so I can scan the numbers off the stickers and keep them in a database so I can keep up with them.

There are a lot of software programs that will find the key number off a
working computer. Jym
