Hi,
I tried to use chkdsk to check bad sectors on my hard disk. But it could not
be completed. I'd like to use some windows based program to rescan again.
But there is no such program in my start menu, are there any third-party
scan that are reliable to use for download?
Thanks
Jack

Hi
Download the testing facility from your Hard drive Manufacturer's Web Site

Jacky,

You need to run chkdsk in Safe Mode. You'll probably not completing the
check because there are files open on the disk.

I believe Norton's PartitionMagic also does this.

Many thanks. My harddisk is SATA from Maxtor 160G
I've used powermax to grab the bad sectors. After a few runs, the squeaking
sounds happen again...
So how to completely get rid of the problems I have?
Thanks
Jack

Jack,

I'm sorry to say this isn't my area of expertise. I'm sure you'll get some
responses here though. Check back. Thanks.

Frankly, if Chkdsk was unable to complete, than you should probably
start thinking about obtaining a new hard drive. Your next
troubleshooting step should be to download and run the diagnostic
utility provided by the hard drive's manufacturer.

You cannot run chkdsk with any repair options on the system partition in
Safe Mode either, it must either be done scheduled at a reboot or from
the Recovery Console.

Squeaking sounds? You didn't mention that the first time. Time to
replace the drive.
