Hi,

I need some help. I have a Dell 8250 with P4, 256Mb Ram, running Win XP Pro.
I also have a Iomega Zip 100Mb drive and a Microtek Slimscan C6 that I am
trying to use with this computer. Both the zip drive and the scanner are
older models with maledb25 connectors. I have the zip connected most of the
time to LPT1. What I would like to do is use both devices interchangeably.
The port is apparently not scsi based. I tried using the devices in chain
with an active terminator on the end - neither device has its own interna
termination. That did not work. I got a data switch and a pass through cable
(male db25), but when everything is connected here is what happened. On
power up, the switch was set to the zip side and when booting finished the
zip drive worked fine. I changed the data switch to point to the scanner,
but it was not accessible. I restarted with the switch to the scanner and
could get the scanner to work, but not the zip. I switched to the zip and
restarted and winxp went into "I'm thinking about this...." mode (just the
Windows XP splash screen) and stayed there.

Ok. Enough of my sad tale (grinning). Anybody have any ideas what I should
try next, short of buying a whole bunch of new hardware? I'm not sure if I
can configure WinXP to see both from startup - to load the drivers for both.

Thanks,
Specter

I have an older scanner on an old computer, if I forget to turn the scanner on before
boot-up it will not work. I have found if I go to the device manager, right-click the
scanner, properties, click refresh the scanner will come on. It is a SCSI scanner. I
don't have a SCSI device on this system so I cannot say it will work on XP.
