scanner and fix any problems in photoshop or to adjust the scan with
either the nikon or other software while i'm scanning?

I use the curve function in the scanner software, but that is it (for
slides). This just gets the tonal range in the ball park to fine tune
in Photoshop. I generally scan in 16 bit mode too, again better for
working in PS. Sharpening is definitely better in PS, I use Smart
Sharpen, used to use NIK Sharpener.
