Scanner recommendation

Mark A. Sam

Hello,

I need to purchase a document scanner to scan documents hopefully directly
into an attachment field in Access 2007. Is this something that Access can
handle directly? I am probably going to buy a Fujitsu Scansnap S510,
becuase I have had experience with Fujitsu, but if anyone has another
recommendation, I'd appreciate hearing it.

Thank you and God Bless,

Mark,
I would not recommend using an OLE Access field and it can involve future
problems of file lockups and possible record corruption. If you are using
Acccess 2007 this is not a problem, if not use a hyperlink data type field to
store only the address path to the scanned file. See my signature if this
seems too complicated.

BoB,

I am using A2007 and will use an attachment field. Since I posted this I
have found out about Office Document Scanning and Imaging which is suppose
to work with any scanner, so I ordered a Fujitsu. My client has a model
that he has been using regularly for about 8 years and has never broke down
nor has it needed any "comsumables" replaced.

I do not see any acknowledge in your response. Did you read and understand
my response?
Are you still planning on storing documents in Access as OLE embedded or
linked?
Are your going to use the recommended hyperlink approach?
Are there any words that I used in this communication that you are unsure of
their meaning?

Bob,

I guess I was vague with my answer. I did understand and was trynig to
convey that I was using an "attachment" type field, not an OLE field. An
attachment type field is available with Access 2007 like you suggested, but
not eariler versions. I purchased a scanner, so not neeing the
recommendation any longer. Sorry for the confusion.

God Bless,

Mark
