Scanner Questions

Greetings!
Which is preferred for scanning photographs, HP PSC 1210 or Lexmark X75? Is
it possible to get results that will allow me to reproduce 4x6 & 5x7 photos
without losing quality on either or both of these printers? Most photos are
color and a few are b&w. Does one scanner handle color or b&w better than
the other?

Of course, I realize that the quality of the original has direct impact on
the quality of the result. Which software will help me achieve the best
result?

I have each of these scanners, a TON of old photos, and a meager hobby
budget.
