Scanner not recognized

I recently moved my computer so had to unplug
everything. When I set it all back up the scanner does
not work. It is a HP Scanjet 5100C that is connected to
the parallell port with the printer connected to the
scanner. The printer works fine but scanner does not. I
am using Windows XP.

Did it ever work under XP? I see two problems here:

1. XP doesn't really like parrallel port scanners.
2. XP hates pass through parrallel devices.
