Scandisk malfunction

I was trying to get rid of a virus the other day, and I
accidentally ended the scandisk process. Now whenever my
computer starts it says that it cannot find scandisk. I
searched for it but I cannot find it on my system. Plus,
now whenever I put in a disk into the drive it doesn't
automatically run. What can I do?! Any help would be
appreciated! Thanks!

There's no SCANdisk on XP. There's ChkDsk.

Click START|RUN, and type CMD.
Then type CHKDSK /? <enter> to see what it offers.

Or in XP itself, right click on the C:\ drive, PROPERTIES|TOOLS|ERROR
CHECKING - which will schedule the utility to run at next boot.
