Scan resoltions in Vista

How do I get the built-in scan component of Photo Gallery to scan at a higher
resolution?

When I first used it to scan a photo, the default was for a JPG file at 300
dpi, with an option to increase to 600 dpi. Now it will not increase above
300 dpi resolution at all and the set/reset default dialog gives me no
options for resolution. This is bad in general because in XP with my Dell
AIO940 scanner, I could get images huge and finely detailed (above 2400 dpi),
and then edit them to save file space. Despite numerous installs of the Dell
software, Vista overrides and doesn't even show me the Dell AOI940
operations center with the scan feature. How could Microsoft overlook such an
obvious potentiality/incompatibility? This is really a huge limiting problem.
Any
assistance helpful. Thank you.

You should post to a MS.Public.Windows.Vista NG like General or Setup.
