Scan Elite focus problems

Ron Grimes

My trusty Minolta Scan Elite has started returning out of focus images after
3 years and several thousand scans. This is happening for slide and 35mm
negative film.

Has anybody had a similar fault and resolved it? Anyone know if there is a
reasonable length of service for these scanners?

I'm wary of sending it for repair since the cost will probably match the
cost of a new scanner.

Thanks

The Scan Elite F-2900 has a fixed focus. It cannot be adjusted. Have
you tried the following?
Q: The scanned image has a severe color-balance problem. What can be
done?
A: Use Manual Set-up.

<How To - Windows>
With the driver software active, press the Ctrl, Shift, and I keys
simultaneously.
<How To - Macintosh>
With the driver software active, press the Command, Shift, and I keys
simultaneously.

If you are using Vuescan the command is located in the command menue
under Scanner and it is called 'Calibrate'.

I hope this helps.

Thanks Dave. The image may have had a color balance problem or the batch of
images may in fact, have a had a focus problem that wasn't clear by looking
at the slide itself.

I did the Ctrl-Shift-I trick and continued and later slides "improved".
(Where is Ctrl-Shift-I documented? I might be able to learn other tips from
the same source))
